The flag of Equatorial Guinea was accepted during the month of October 12, 1968. The shield was modified during Macías presidency in 1973 and restored when Teodoro Obiang Nguema became President of the country in 1979.
The colour blue denotes the sea while the green symbolises the rich country farmlands and the red signifies Equatorial Guinea’s independence.
There is a silk cotton tree (Bombax) that lies in the centre position of the silver shield is known as ceiba.
The flag carries the message of national motto, which is “Unity, Peace and Justice”.
The national anthem
“Let Us Tread the Path of our Immense Happiness” is the national anthem of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea since its independence from Spain in 1968. It was written by Atanasio Ndongo Miyone. The music was composed by Ramiro Sánchez López.
